Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) CSF Test Cost & Procedure

A novel inhibitor binding test was used to evaluate the levels of serum and CSF angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) in 32 sarcoidosis patients, 49 patients with neurologic disorders, and 38 controls. In individuals with neurosarcoidosis, 11 out of 20 exhibited elevated CSF ACE levels. Only 1 out of 12 individuals with systemic sarcoidosis without neurologic impairment exhibited increased CSF ACE. The patient with the highest value had extensive meningeal sarcoidosis. High levels were also seen in patients who had CNS malignancies or bacterial meningitis. Changes between analyses were linked with the clinical progression of neurosarcoidosis. Neurosarcoidosis diagnosis and follow-up appear to benefit from CSF ACE measurement.
