Normal Range of Procalcitonin Values

The Procalcitonin (PCT) is the protein that also consists of 116 amino acids, considered to be the peptide precursor of the calcitonin, it is the hormone that could be synthesized by parafollicular C cells of thyroid and it is involved in the calcium homeostasis. The Procalcitonin arises from the end peptidase-cleaved preprocalcitonin.

Any reference value for the procalcitonin in the adults is less than the value of 0.1 ng/mL. The Levels that are greater than the value of 0.25 ng/mL could indicate presence of any infection.

Sepsis Level

Values

between 2 µg/L and 10 µg/L

Severe sepsis

10 µg/L or greater
