The duration of a color Doppler test or procedure can vary depending on several factors, including the type of exam, the area of the body being imaged, and the complexity of the case. In general, a color Doppler exam takes from 15 minutes to an hour or more.

During the exam, the patient lies down on a table while a trained technician or sonographer uses a handheld device called a transducer to capture images of blood flow in the area of interest. The technician may ask the patient to change positions or hold their breath during the exam to obtain the best possible images. Once the images are captured, they are analyzed by a healthcare provider who interprets the results and makes a diagnosis.
