  • A contrast CT uses a special dye called Contrast material to enhance the visibility. NCCT (Non contrast CT) does not use any dye or contrast material.
  • NCCT scan is best for bones, brain haemorrhage, kidney stones etc, whereas Contrast CT scan provides best results of blood vessels, tumours, infection and inflammation.
  • Risk is involved in CT contrast Scan but in NCCT doesn’t have any risk involved.
  • NCCT is safer for kidney patients and Contrast CT Scan is not recommended for kidney diseases patients.
  • NCCT takes only 30-40 seconds, so this is faster for emergency cases and Contrast CT scan takes time because of injecting contrast dye, which should take around 1 hour to spread in the area before the test.

Risks involved in NCCT-

As mentioned, generally NCCT is safe but there are few concerns-

  • NCCT scans use X-ray radiation, so they are not recommended for pregnant women
  • Contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) scans can show veins and arteries more clearly than NCCT scans

Conclusion-

NCCT (Non-contrast CT) Scan is a vital imaging tool in radiology, in which there’s no contrast involved. This NCCT test is painless and Non-invasive.
