Camplybacteriosis

Campylobacteriosis is a bacterial infection caused by the Campylobacter species of bacteria, most commonly Campylobacter jejuni. Campylobacter bacteria are spiral-shaped, Gram-negative bacteria that are commonly found in the intestines of animals, particularly in the digestive tracts of poultry, cattle, and other animals used for food production. Campylobacteriosis is one of the most common bacterial causes of diarrheal illness worldwide.

Symptoms of campylobacteriosis typically include diarrhea (which may be bloody), abdominal cramps, fever, nausea, and vomiting. The illness can range from mild to severe, and in some cases, it may lead to more serious complications, such as Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare but potentially serious neurological disorder that affects the nervous system.

Diagnosis of campylobacteriosis usually involves a stool culture to identify the Campylobacter bacteria. Other laboratory tests, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), may also be used for more accurate and rapid detection of Campylobacter.
