Cerebral Astrocytoma

Cerebral astrocytoma is a type of brain tumor that originates from astrocytes, which are glial cells in the cerebral hemisphere of the brain. The cerebral hemisphere is responsible for various functions such as sensory perception, motor control, speech, and cognition. Cerebral astrocytomas are classified as a type of glioma, as they arise from glial cells.

Cerebral astrocytomas can occur in both children and adults, and they can be classified into different grades based on their aggressiveness and appearance under a microscope, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) grading system. Grades of cerebral astrocytomas include grade I (pilocytic astrocytoma), grade II (diffuse astrocytoma), grade III (anaplastic astrocytoma), and grade IV (glioblastoma).

Symptoms of cerebral astrocytomas may vary depending on the size, location, and grade of the tumor, but can include headache, seizures, changes in vision, changes in speech, weakness or numbness in limbs, cognitive changes, and personality changes.
