Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever

Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF), also known as Ebola virus disease (EVD), is a severe and often fatal viral illness caused by the Ebola virus. The Ebola virus is a member of the Filoviridae family, and there are five species of Ebola virus: Zaire, Sudan, Bundibugyo, Taï Forest, and Reston. EHF is known for its high mortality rate, with case fatality rates ranging from 25% to 90% depending on the outbreak and the species of Ebola virus involved.

EHF is transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals, typically fruit bats, primates, or other mammals. Once a human is infected, the virus can spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals or contaminated surfaces and objects. EHF can also spread within communities through close contact with infected individuals during caregiving, traditional burial practices, or through contaminated healthcare settings.

Symptoms of EHF can include sudden onset of fever, fatigue, muscle and joint aches, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and in severe cases, internal and external bleeding. EHF can progress rapidly and can cause severe organ damage, shock, and death in a short period.
