CEBPA (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein) is a gene that encodes a transcription factor involved in granulocyte differentiation. CEBPA mutations are found in 6% to 15% of newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), and 15% to 18% of AML with normal karyotypes. In the absence of cytogenetic abnormalities and FLT3 internal duplication, CEBPA mutations are associated with a favourable prognosis (FLT3-ITD). familial AML is caused by chromosomal CEBPA mutations.
