Gastric Aspirate, Occult Blood Test Cost & Procedure

A quick screening test called Gastroccult is intended to find hidden blood in gastric aspirate or vomitus. Doctors can diagnose and treat various disorders, including gastrointestinal secretions, hematemesis, and abnormal stomach acid, with the help of gastric content analysis.

Procedure:

1. Compile the sample for examination

Procedures' limitations:

Interfering Chemicals

• Patients should avoid consuming foods, medications, vitamins, or other things that can result in false positive or negative test findings.
• Two or three days before testing, dietary restrictions may be required.
• Items like tumours, horseradish, and red meats might result in false-positive blood test results for occult blood.
• Avoid other raw vegetables with a high peroxidase content.
• Large doses of vitamin C, aspirin, cimetidine (Tagamet), and iron tablets are among the medications that can result in false-positive or false-negative results.
• If gastrointestinal samples are analysed without antacids, it is unlikely that the occult blood test will be inhibited in any way.
