Monkeypox Virus

Monkeypox virus is a rare viral disease that is similar to human smallpox, but with milder symptoms. The virus is found in parts of central and West Africa, primarily in rural areas where people have close contact with infected animals, such as rodents and monkeys.

The symptoms of monkeypox typically begin with fever, headache, muscle aches, and a general feeling of discomfort, followed by a rash that usually appears on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body. The rash progresses to form lesions that fill with fluid and then scab over and fall off within 3-4 weeks.

Monkeypox is spread through contact with infected animals or through close contact with infected people, primarily through respiratory droplets. The virus can also be spread through contact with contaminated objects, such as bedding or clothing.

The diagnosis of monkeypox is made through clinical evaluation and laboratory tests, such as PCR tests to detect the DNA of the virus in blood or other body fluids.
