What is Pneumoslide IgM-

Pneumoslide IgM is a type of immunofluorescence assay that identifies the IgM antibodies in blood samples. These are those antibodies which starts bombing the normal tissues of the body.

Pneumonia -

It is a condition that creates swelling of the lungs and may fill fluid in the air sacs.

Atypical Pneumonia-

This is a condition of swelling of lung tissues due to numerous bacteria. It shows more severe symptoms than typical pneumonia.

What causes Atypical pneumonia?

It is a pneumonia caused by bacteria to people under age of 40.

  • Caused by  pneumoniae- affects young people
  • Caused by legionella pneumonia - Middle-aged patients
  • Caused by mycoplasma - seen in people above 40 years.

Signs and symptoms-

The symptom which is seen in patients infected by pneumonia are-

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Wheezing
  • Blockage of chest
  • Difficult to breath
  • Chest discomfort
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Low energy
  • Sweating
  • Skin rashes
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain in ear

Immunofluorescence Test-

This test is used in labs to detect various diseases of the skin, heart,  kidney, and other organs.

In this test, a unique bar pairing occurs between antigen and antibody to identify the proteins in the blood sample.

It is a microscopic method used to detect diseases.

Types of immunofluorescence

  • Direct immunofluorescence
  • Indirect immunofluorescence

What's Elisa?

ELISA stands for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and is used to detect and measure antibodies, proteins, and hormones of the body's immune system that produces antibodies to fight against infection.

Types Of Elisa

ELISA tests can be divided into three types depending upon the different styles used for binding between antigens and antibodies-

Indirect ELISA – Antigen is  carpeted to the microtiter well

Sandwich ELISA – Antibody is  carpeted on the microtiter well

Competitive ELISA – Microtiter well, which is antigen-carpeted, is filled with the antigen-antibody admixture.

What is Anti-ds DNA?

Two methods are used for ANA:

  1. Indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA): In this method, a patient's blood sample is mixed with cells on a slide. Autoantibodies that are present in the blood react with the cells. The fall is combined with a fluorescent antibody reagent and examined under a microscope. The presence and pattern of fluorescence are noted.
  2. Immunoassays- These methods are usually performed on automatic instrumentation but may be less sensitive than IFA in detecting ANA.

When is this test recommended?

It is advised when you have positive results of an anti-ds DNA  (ANA) test and symptoms of SLE, such as persistent fatigue, joint pain, and a rash resembling a butterfly across the nose and cheeks.

Special requirements for the test-

It should be done in the early morning as it requires fasting.

Also, it is instructed to notify the physician about any medication you are taking.

Procedure -

  • A blood sample is taken by the technician.
  • A plastic Needle is inserted into the arm of the patient, and blood is withdrawn.
  • The sample is now sent to the lab for culture and examination
