Preparation

• Tell your doctor before the test if you previously had myelography or a spinal cord imaging test. Any medications, vitamins, or supplements you may be taking—whether prescribed, over-the-counter, or illicit—should be brought up with your doctor. • Your healthcare provider will perform a spinal tap, also known as a lumbar puncture, to obtain a CSF sample for this test. Before the test is administered, they will walk you through the procedure.

The spinal tap procedure is as follows

• You will be asked to sit or lie on your side on an examination table by your healthcare provider.
• Throughout the treatment, you must be motionless because moving could harm you. A small, hollow needle will be inserted between two bones in your lower spine once the area has become numb.
