What is the RA factor blood test?

The Rheumatoid Factor Blood Test detects rheumatoid antibodies in the body. Autoantibodies are produced by the body's immune system and attack healthy tissues.

• A lab technician will tie a rubber band around your arm to find a vein
• Then they will clean the skin using an alcohol swab or an antiseptic wipe
• They may ask you to squeeze your hand or make a fist as these actions will allow more blood to flow to your hand and make it easier to get a sample
• After this, a sterile needle is inserted into a vein to draw a blood sample you might feel a little sting when the needle is inserted into a vein
• After collecting the sample the needle is removed, and the sample is then sent to the lab for further analysis
• The puncture site is covered with the bandage
