Semen Fructose Qualitative Cost & Procedure

This Test is used in males to check infertility. It is usually advised for patients who have low sperm counts. Serum analysis is also recommended along with this test. It is a cheap test comparatively. Couples who are planning a baby are generally advised to undergo this test.

Semen:

It is a white and thick fluid that circumscribes sperms. The secretions of many glands are drained into this. The sap from seminal vesicles contains vitamin C, protein,n, and enzymes.

Vas deferens, which makes the sperm reach the urethra, secretes this semen. Any abnormality in this passage may cause blockage of the flow of semen.

Fructose:

It is a source of energy for the movement of sperm. If this test comes positive, it is normal. In a negative result, blockage on other f vas deferens is seen.

It is a monosaccharide. It is popularly known as 'Fruity Sugar.' The significant sources of fructose are vegetables and sugarcane. It is a natural sweetener and has less effect on blood glucose levels. This is not seen in patients who do not produce sperm.

Why is this Test conducted?

This test is used to detect male infertility. The quantity, volume of ejaculate, pH, and amount of serum. This test detects any deformities in the formation of sperm.

When the sperm count is low, this test is recommended.

If there are no sperm in the semen, an additional fructose test is advised for the patient.

What is required before the test?

• Before the sample collection, you are not supposed to indulge in sexual activity prior three days.
• Sexual intercourse decreases the amount of sperm.
• Patients should avoid smoking, black tea, and drugs.
• Hormonal supplements need to be avoided.
• No fried food is to be eaten.

Procedure:

• Patients are required to provide a  to the physician.
• Sample can be collected by :
  • Sex with early ejaculation.
  • Masturbation
  • Induced sex
  • Sex with the use of a condom

Interpretation of Results:

• Standard Test: This indicates the sight of fructose(>more than 150 mg/dL)
• Abnormal Test: This indicates a lack of fructose, which means:
