Sepsis Panel Cost & Procedure

 This test is used to determine the microorganism that causes sepsis. Blood smears and tests do Covid-19 are included in this panel.

Sepsis:

This is a fatal illness that induces infection. The body's immune system is accountable for battling against disease.

Causes of sepsis:

When a person confronts a condition, if not treated, it can cause sepsis. Viral infections like covid are induced by sepsis.

Stages of sepsis:

The following sets of sepsis are seen:

• Sepsis: It causes swelling of the body.
• Severe sepsis: The infection reaches the organs
• Septic Shock: It decreases the pulse and blood flow and may also lead to :
  • Stroke Death
  • Heart attack
  • Organ Failure

Symptoms seen are :

• Excessive Sweating
• Breathing difficulty
• Confusion
• Chills
• Fever
• Mental retardation
• Shivering
• Clammy skin.

Risks for sepsis:

• Blood poisoning
• Kidney infection
• Pneumonia
• Infection in the abdomen

A hyperactive response to infection can cause swelling, known as Sepsis. This can cause organ failure.

Diagnosis of sepsis:

It is a challenging task to diagnose sepsis as no specific symptoms are seen.

Procedure:

It requires a wound culture. A sample of saliva or mucus is taken. Further studies are done by Ct scan and tomography. The following tests are used to determine sepsis:

• Blood Test:
  • Complete Blood Count(CBC): This test estimates total blood cell count. Also, white blood cells attack Germs.
  • Lactate Test: Heart failures and severe infections are caused by lactic acid formation.
  • C-Reactive Protein: It produces swelling in organs. Blood culture: A blood test identifies bacteria.
  • PT: prothrombin time
• Confirmatory tests:
  • Endotoxin test: This test recognizes the gram-harmful bacteria.
  • SeptiCyte test: The sepsis identified by their products.
  • Procalcitonin (PCT) test: It recognizes viral infections.
• Urine test
  • Urinalysis
  • Urine culture

Treatment:

The doctors recommend antibiotics to the patients. But the antibiotics cause many side effects such as :

Red rashes, Dizziness, diarrhea, Allergy, Yeast infections. The early identification and treatment of sepsis are necessary for adequately managing the patient.
