An imaging procedure called an abdominal ultrasound uses sound waves to peer within the abdomen. The best screening method for an abdominal aortic aneurysm is this one. To view the blood arteries and organs in the abdominal region, abdominal ultrasonography is performed.

Precautions

  • Typically, you must fast for 8 to 12 hours prior to an abdominal ultrasound.
  • If you want to drink water before the test, check with your doctor first. Any medicine you are taking should not be stopped unless your doctor instructs you to.

Procedure 

  • Put on a hospital gown and take any jewellery off.
  • You lie on your back on an exam table for an abdominal ultrasound. A specialized gel is applied to your abdomen by the sonographer. 
  • For better visuals, the gel interacts with the ultrasound machine.
  • The sonographer will softly rub the belly while the ultrasound device is back and forth. 
  • A computer receives signals from the gadget and Images produced by the computer depict how blood moves through the abdominal tissues.

After Care

No care is needed, you would be able to return to regular activities immediately after an abdominal ultrasound.
