An examination of a woman's uterus, ovaries, tubes, cervix, and pelvic region is done using transvaginal(tvs) ultrasound.
The following issues may be addressed using transvaginal ultrasound:
Cysts
fibroid tumors
Irregular menstrual cycles
abnormal vaginal bleeding
some forms of infertility
Ectopic pregnancy
pelvic pain etc.
Precautions
You'll be asked to take some clothing off
Your bladder is either empty or somewhat filled.
Procedure
Your knees will be bent as you lay on your back on a table. You might have stirrups holding your feet.
A probe will be inserted into the vagina by either the doctor or the ultrasound technician. The discomfort can be slight, but it won't hurt. Gel has been placed on top of the probe.
The probe sends out sound waves and records how those waves are reflected off of bodily parts. An image of the body component is created by the ultrasound equipment.
To view the pelvic organs, the medical professional will carefully slide the probe around the area.
Side Effects/ Risks
The pressure of the probe may cause a little discomfort in some cases.
