Torch IgG and IgM Evaluation Panel - Test, Procedure and Cost

A Torch screen is a series of tests to describe infections in pregnant women. Infections can pass to the fetus during gestation. Beforehand discovery and treatment of infections can help complications in newborns. This test checks for antibodies to infections. Antibodies are proteins that recognize and destroy dangerous substances similar to viruses and bacteria.

Torch Screen Test Types

>>Immunoglobulin M (IgM)

IgG antibodies are present when someone has been infected in history and is no longer acutely ill. IgM antibodies are present when someone has an acute infection.  

What does the TORCH Profile IgG & IgM indicate?

The TORCH profile test identifies the presence of antibodies against toxoplasma, rubella, cytomegalovirus, and herpes simplex virus 1 and 2. The absence of antibodies indicates a negative result, presence of antibodies indicates a positive result. Negative for both IgG and IgM indicates no former or current infection. A positive IgG result and a negative IgM effect indicate that a very long-term infection has cleared or you have been vaccinated. 

How to take a sample? 

A small blood sample is taken at the TORCH screen. Blood is generally taken from a  tone in the arm. You go to the lab and a phlebotomist takes your blood. They clean the area and use a needle to draw blood. They collect blood in tubes or smallholders. 

What do TORCH screen results mean? 

Results are reported as" Positive" or" Negative". A positive test result means that her IgG or IgM antibodies were set up against one or further of the infections covered by the screen. A negative test result is generally considered normal unless you have a  complaint that requires vaccination.

This means no antibodies have been detected and no current or once infection. IgM antibodies are present in current or recent infections. However, it's most probably due to the current infection, If the invigorated test positive for these antibodies. However, fresh tests are done to see if the baby has an active infection and If an infant has both IgG and IgM antibodies.

The presence of her IgG antibodies in a pregnant woman generally indicates former infection or immunity. However, her alternate blood test will be done in many weeks to compare antibody situations, If there's an active infection. Elevated situations may mean new or ongoing infection.
