TYPHIDOT Rapid IgG/IgM (Combo) is an immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection and discrimination of specific IgM and IgG antibodies against specific Salmonella typhi OMP antigens in human serum or plasma. Intended for use as an in vitro diagnostic for typhoid fever.

Typhoid: Typhoid fever is caused by Salmonella bacteria. Typhoid fever is rare in developed countries. It remains a serious health threat to developing countries, especially children.

Typhoid fever is caused by contaminated food or water or by close contact with an infected person. Signs and symptoms usually include:

  • High fever
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation or diarrhea.
  • Procedure

The test involves the following steps:

  1. Wrap a rubber band or tourniquet tightly around your upper arm.
  2. You will be asked to make a tight fist. This fills the vein with blood and makes it easier to draw blood. Once the vein is found, wash the area with an antiseptic solution. It prevents bacteria from entering the body.
  3. Insert the needle into the vein and collect a blood sample into a vacutainer tube.
  4. The lab technician takes out the needle and unties the rubber band. Then you can open your fists.
  5. Use gauze or absorbent cotton to stop bleeding.
  6. The blood sample is then added to the Typhidot test kit and combined with the chemicals or reagents contained in the test kit. The test kit provides results within 1-3 hours.

Importance of Typhidot Test

Complete recovery from typhoid fever is highly dependent on timely detection and accurate treatment by typhoid testing. Delaying them can lead to serious health complications.

  1. Renal failure: Typhoid fever can cause acute renal failure and hepatitis, but these diseases are rare.
  2. Internal bleeding: Internal bleeding can occur if typhoid is not treated with appropriate antibiotics. Patients may need blood transfusions if their condition worsens.
  3. Peritonitis: A very serious complication in which bacteria infect the peritoneum.

Risks Associated with Typhidot Test

In some people, locating veins and arteries can be difficult, making it difficult to obtain a blood sample.

  1. Hematoma

  2. Swelling of the vein from which the blood sample was taken

  3. Excessive bleeding

  4. Fainting or light-headedness

  5. Needle insertion site infection

Remember to inform your lab technician if you are taking any medications during a blood test. Overall, the typhoid test does not pose a significant risk.
