The ultrasound scan used to examine your armpits for swellings, pain, or lumps in your armpit is known as the ultrasound axilla scan. The ultrasound axlla is a safe, quick, and non-invasive technique to assess and evaluate the problems associated with the axilla/armpit.

The ultrasound scan for an armpit contains in itself structures like circulatory structures including the veins and arteries, the lymph nodes and nerves, skin, fat, and subcutaneous glands. These ultrasound images are used to assess axillary tumours or pain caused due to other reasons, enlargement of lymph nodes and cancer growth in the region.

First you will be asked to change your clothes into a gown that is provided by your care provider. Then a special gel is placed on the area to be examined. A transducer or ultrasound wand is run over the gel placed area to record the area of armpit. Once the scan is completed, the gel is wiped off and you are free to go home.

Other than feeling slight pressure while the ultrasound transducer is being pressure over your skin to record scan images you would  not feel any discomfort or pain. If the test feels painful, you should inform  your doctor/technologist right away.
