Uveal melanoma, also known as ocular melanoma, is a rare type of cancer that arises from the pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) in the uvea, which is the middle layer of the eye. The uvea includes the colored part of eye(iris), the ciliary body (which produces the fluid in the front of the eye), and the choroid (a layer of blood vessels that provides oxygen and nutrients to the retina).

Uveal melanoma often presents without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, and it may be detected during a routine eye exam.
