What is Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) Test?

PCNA, Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen Nuclear Antigen is a protein found only in cancerous and proliferating cells. This is a nuclear antigen that is involved in DNA synthesis, repair, and cell cycle progression. During DNA replication, PCNA is required for the coordinated synthesis of both the leading and lagging strands at the replication fork. PCNA expression is linked to the proliferation of both malignant and cell types. Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus have these antibody PCNA cells (SLE). This Anti PCNA test is performed on a sample of blood drawn from the patient in order to quantify the levels of Anti PCNA in the blood and to confirm SLE, as well as during and after treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus.
