It consists of a cluster of tests:

• Antinuclear Antibody
• Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide

Rheumatoid factor:

It is a protein produced by the immune system.

Elevated levels of this protein mark the presence of autoimmune disease.

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

The disease that causes joint pain and swelling joints are known as Rheumatoid arthritis. In this disease, stiffness of joints is also seen.

This disease can also affect the eyes,heart , lungs and blood vessels.

Causes :

It has no specific cause. Viruses and bacteria can cause the body's genes not to cause rheumatoid arthritis.

Epidemiology:

Men are relatively less affected by this disorder. Most commonly, middle-abdomen are more likely to get involved. Other factors which can cause this disorder are smoking cigarettes, obesity and a family history of rheumatoid arthritis.

Sjogren's Syndrome:

In this disorder, there is an attack on healthy tissues in the body by the immune system. There is an attack mainly on the lacrimal glands. The glands help in producing tears present in the eyes. There is also the production of saliva by the salivary glands.

In Sjogren syndrome, there is a reduction in the production of saliva and tears, which results in a dry mouth and dry eyes. There is an effect on the brain, kidneys, and lungs.

• Burning
• Stinging
• Irritation
• Joint pain
• Fatigue

There is a decrease in salivation which will lead to choking and difficulty in swallowing and chewing.

As saliva helps kill bacteria, preventing infections.

With the reduced saliva production, patients with this syndrome suffer from tooth decay.

There may be an occurrence of vaginal dryness.
